Board Position: Treasurer and Programs Director

Introduction: I have been working with Open Hand for the past 5 years in various capacities. I’ve been a Board member for the past 4 years and I believe in Open Hand’s ministry. Open Hand understands that it is not a level playing field for our young people, their families and their communities. We have a divine opportunity to empower youth ages 14 to 19, their families and the community by primarily caring, then building relationships, providing opportunities and needed resources. We have the privilege of being part of and ultimately seeing lives change.

Career History: I’m a licensed professional counselor with my own practice. I’m doing what I love and what God has gifted to do. I’m also a federal government retiree with 25 years of service with the Department of Justice. I’m a Deaconess and Praise and Worship leader at my church New City Fellowship. I joined New City because of its cross-cultural vision and commitment to bring all of God’s people together no matter their race or economic status. I also joined New City because of its strong biblical preaching and teaching.

Why Are You on the Board? I am a trauma counselor and understand the struggles of those who are battered, bruised and abused by life. It is a blessing to be able to minister to our at-risk teens and their families, to help them heal and become healthy members of their communities. Additionally, it is a blessing to give them hope and be representative of God’s grace and mercy for all people.
